Aqua-Chem, Inc. Receives Contract Extension from Defense Logistics Agency Through 2015
Knoxville, TN (August 20, 2013) - Aqua-Chem Inc, a Knoxville-based maker of water purification systems, announces the extension of their Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) water purification parts contract through August 2015. In August 2010, Aqua-Chem Inc. was awarded a $386 million contract to manage and distribute water purification parts and equipment to the U.S. military. "This contract extension through 2015 demonstrates our ability to support the DLA and our service personnel in the field with the parts and equipment required to provide our warfighters with clean, safe, drinking water," said David Gensterblum, President and CEO of Aqua-Chem.
The contract, through the Defense Logistics Agency, Maritime Division, requires Aqua-Chem, working with key suppliers and original equipment manufacturers, to warehouse, store and manage the logistics and supply chain of materials that support two versions of the Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit, (ROWPU) plus the Lightweight Water Purification System (LWP) and the Tactical Water Purification System (TWPS). The Army and Marine Corps use these systems in remote locations worldwide, as well as in disaster relief efforts.
The contract requires a minimum on-time delivery requirement for parts and supplies to our military warfighters. Aqua-Chem’s intense management of this contract has resulted in a world-class on-time delivery rating of 99.3%. "Our on-time delivery rating was a key influencing factor in our contract being extended through 2015," added Gensterblum. Gensterblum went on to say, "This is a great company achievement and reflects highly on the individual dedication and professionalism of our employees."
In the 1980s and 1990s, Aqua-Chem designed and produced the first ROWPU systems used by the military and was part of a team that developed and fielded the TWPS system.
